Hi I'm
Matt,
creator of SuperCard.
SuperCard Models is my personal project, born from a love of cars and creating things. I design and build detailed, large-scale model cars from scratch. My process combines careful painstaking craft by hand, with the use of digital tools such as Adobe Illustrator and hardware such as printers and a Cricut automated cutting machine. The materials I work with are a mix of foam board card board, and light card stock predominantly, plus various other craft and household items.
SuperCard revitalises a passion from when I was a kid. I spent a lot of time designing and building my own custom car bodies for my 1/10 scale radio control Tamiya off-roader. The hobby kicked off a life long love of creating and building things, and helped fuel a passion for automotive design and engineering. Recently I have taken up model design again as an enjoyable and satisfying hobby.
Expensive, exotic super cars are by definition highly desirable and unobtainable for most of us. What's the next best thing? Buying or building scale replicas is a way to help bridge the gap between desiring - and actually acquiring - the real thing.
Creating a scale replicas completely from scratch has another benefit: by examining and recreating every line, curve, panel, structure and detail of the real car, I am in some ways brought closer to the minds and expertise of the automotive designers and engineers who create the real thing.
Once a build is complete, I have something that exists (or is not obtainable) anywhere else. So by starting with bare sheets of card, applying hard work, patience, persistence, creativity and some skill, I end up with my own unique and desirable creation.
